Major League Baseball blackouts in Hawaii

I found out during a recent trip to Hawaii the ridiculousness of the Major League Baseball blackout rule when I learned that the San Francisco Giants are blacked out there.

It turns out that it is more ridiculous than I thought through this Sporting News article.

Really?  Would MLB really lose that much by not having any blackouts in Hawaii?

Now I Know I'm Out Of Touch With Baseball

I haven't really watched Major League baseball since 1999, mostly because I don't watch a whole lot of television and I would only be able to catch the team I followed while growing up (the Los Angeles Dodgers) if they are playing the San Francisco Giants and are on the local television station.

On Monday, I realized how out of touch I am with baseball - I missed the news saying that the Milwaukee Brewers moved to the National League. It seems a bit messed up to have 6 teams in the Central division when everyone else has 5 teams (accept the American League West, which only has 4).
